National Canal Museum Docents
The Museum Docent is responsible for interacting with visitors to ensure they have a safe, enjoyable and enriching experience in our museum. This position is under the general supervision of the Visitor Service Coordinator who provides broad guidance and assistance in completion of assigned tasks, and any policy related issues. Abilities required include friendly and welcoming demeanor, ability to share knowledge of the Delaware and Lehigh Navigation history and assistance where needed to enhance the visitor’s experience with the museum exhibits.
Position responsibilities:

Interact with museum visitors in a warm and friendly manner, sharing D&L history, answering questions and offering assistance where needed with museum exhibits.

Ensure the museum environment is free of physical hazards, and hazardous behavior (climbing, running, jumping onto exhibits)

Assist with maintaining cleanliness of exhibits as needed.

Notify staff if you become aware of any exhibits that are not working properly.

Report on time for scheduled shifts. Notify staff as early as possible of any planned absences or emergencies that will make you late for or unable to work your scheduled shift.

Endeavor to attend and participate in monthly museum volunteer meetings and ongoing opportunities for deepening knowledge of the D&L past and present.
