Building a Community Garden at Catasaqua YMCA

Seeking skilled volunteers during Day of Caring to build a community garden to be constructed at our Greater Valley YMCA, Suburban North branch. The proposed area for building is 20 ft x 24 ft - which could potentially fit six (6) raised garden beds measuring 8 ft x 10 ft.
This project would  provide a benefit of food access to our community through a weekly “take one, share one” table at our branch to encourage Y members to eat healthy; we will partner with a local church who will prepare items ready to be cooked such as eggplant, zucchini and squash and they will be delivered to a local senior living facility in our community; we will engage our camp children and seniors to volunteer with planting, weeding and watering – which can reduce health conditions such as coronary disease, and type 2 diabetes and also prevent depression and promote mental health well-being.; volunteering in our garden will enable children and seniors alike to research, explore and develop a sense of pride in their environmental stewardship by making a difference in the community they live in.
