The Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley offers many types of learning and peer to peer opportunities for nonprofit leaders. We focus on relevant topics based on the feedback from leaders like you. See below for the various offerings. Registration links will be listed on this page as sessions are confirmed. The costs to attend are listed below. Member organizations attend these programs for free or at a reduced cost.
Forums
Educational forums provide nonprofit leaders an opportunity to share experiences and learn new practices and methods to benefit their role and their organization. Topics are directed by nonprofit leaders and outside facilitators assist in the discussion.
Join us for a session all about impact with the Lehigh Valley Funders group at the upcoming Nonprofit Conference on November 18.
A Candid Conversation about Board Effectiveness. Wednesday, October 21 8:30AM to 10:00AM. If you’re like most Executive Directors, your board is one of the most important — and most complicated — relationships in your professional life. Whether your board is a source of strength or a source of frustration, you’re not alone: board effectiveness and engagement is something nearly every nonprofit leader is navigating. The session uses Converge, a facilitation platform where every participant contributes simultaneously, anonymously, and in real time. Together, you’ll build a sector-wide picture of what’s working and what isn’t when it comes to board performance — and walk away with concrete benchmarks and insights you can act on. Cost is free for Volunteer Center members, $35 for non-members.
Past Meet the Funders Forums:
Should your Nonprofit Pursue Government Funding? Nonprofit leaders from New Bethany, Boys & Girls Club Allentown, and Pinebrook Family Answers discussed securing and navigating government funding. They shared their experiences applying for grants, meeting reporting requirements, and overcoming granting challenges at the local, state, and federal levels.
Meet the Funders - Effective Reporting and Feedback: Reports can do more than satisfy a deadline or be the last step in the funding process. They can also be an intentional tool for relationship-building and impact communication. Join this session to hear from Heather Turoczi of United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and Laura Kaplus of Harry C. Trexler Trust about what makes reports meaningful and how nonprofits can better tell their story.
Peer-to-peer Sessions
Join your peers for these in-person sessions that provide a platform for nonprofit leaders to connect. Use these sessions to troubleshoot issues and to give and receive support, share strategies, and resources for successful nonprofit management. Cost is free for Volunteer Center members, $35 for non-members.

Evaluating Programs, Events & Traditions - Because We've Always Done It Isn't a Strategy. Join other leaders to talk through impact vs effort and overcoming fear and concerns of donor, staff and board member reactions when you suggest change.
Succession Planning - Come share real-world experiences, challenges, and practical strategies for leadership transitions at your organizations. Whether you are planning years ahead or navigating an imminent transition, this discussion offers an opportunity to learn from peers and strengthen your approach around this often overlooked aspect of nonprofit leadership.
