Opportunity Details

Colonial Foodways Cooking Volunteer

Colonial Foodways Volunteers engage visitors with the history of Burnside Plantation through live cooking demonstrations in the Summer Kitchen. Volunteers will demonstrate open hearth cooking practices and recreate 18th and early 19th century recipes in period attire. Volunteers answer visitor questions about early cooking and life on a colonial-era farm like Burnside Plantation.

Volunteers will receive training on colonial cooking techniques and will gain knowledge and appreciation of the history of Burnside and Bethlehem's early Moravian roots. Volunteers are expected to be able to engage visitors of all ages through cooking demonstrations and presenting historical information about Burnside Plantation.

Colonial Foodways Volunteers are asked to assist where possible during our Saturdays at Burnside programming and during our annual Blueberry Festival and Apple Days weekends.  Colonial Foodways volunteers will be provided with period attire.
