Keep children and families safe by teaching them about home fire safety!
The American Red Cross Pillowcase Project is a one-hour curriculum that provides emergency-preparedness education to youth in grades 3-5 in school and after-school settings. This interactive program addresses fire safety, local hazards, coping skills and making a personal emergency kit in a pillowcase that is supplied by the program.
Volunteers conduct outreach to schools, after school groups, community centers and scouting troops, with the goal of securing presentation sites. They then give Pillowcase Project presentations to youth, age 8-11, at those sites. Training is provided, but some teaching experienceis helpful. Each presentation takes about 2 hours, including set up and clean up.
