Adopt an Apartment

Sponsors usually adopt an apartment for one calendar year. The apartment becomes vacant about every 2-to-3 months, depending upon varied circumstances. As each resident vacates, they are allowed to take all the donated items with them. However, this then leaves the apartment in need of refreshing and restocking.

Typical Apartment Needs:

  1. New Twin Sheet Set
  2. New Towel Sets
  3. New Pillows
  4. Brooms & Dust Pans
  5. Mops
  6. Tall Kitchen Trash Cans & Garbage Bags
  7. Toilet Paper
  8. Paper Towels
  9. Miscellaneous Household Cleaning Supplies & Gloves
  10. Pots & Pans
  11. Plastic-ware for children
  12. Utensils
  13. Microwaveable Dishes
  14. Floor Mats & Area Rugs

The Sponsor Duties:

Sponsor groups stay involved by doing light-to-medium maintenance. The types of maintenance the group would be responsible for are: sweeping, mopping, dusting, deep cleaning (kitchens & bathrooms), providing basic apartment needs (*NEW* twin sheets, towel sets and pillows) and personal hygiene items if able. If the group feels so inclined, there may also be painting opportunities for them throughout their adoption. There is always a need for a “handyman” in every sponsor group. Their function can range from tightening screws on a doorknob to changing a light bulb to replacing a cabinet/door hinge or maybe even hanging a painting.

The Adoption Process:

The sponsor group appoints a contact and provides a phone number and an email address for the group. The contact then fills out a volunteer application and is assigned an apartment. Once the apartment is assigned, if it’s currently vacant, the group can take a tour of the apartment to assess its needs. We will then set up tentative future volunteer dates for the group to come in and refresh the apartment
