Throughout the summer, children at the Allentown YMCA/YWCA summer camp will continue to complete a different one-hour service project each week. The projects are based on each week's camp theme. As shown in the pictures below, the children decorated placemats to be given out to Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County participants. Because the week's theme was "Fit 4 Life," the children decorated the placemats to stress the importance of eating healthy and drew examples of healthy foods. Other projects include making and hanging bird feeders, baking cookies to be distributed at homeless shelters, and sending care packages and letters to soldiers.
Additionally, children at Mosser Village Family Center have been learning about the environment and completing environmental service projects each week through the Volunteer Center. The children recently made bird feeders by covering pinecones in peanut butter and then dipping them in bird seed. The campers placed their feeders around the family center and will continue to watch as birds visit for a snack.
