Thank you to our Youth Sponsors:

Fulfilling the mission of the PYLi program, youth are provided the encouragement, peer networks and leadership skills necessary for them to make meaningful contributions to their communities and begin a life-long journey of leadership and service. Last year 17 high school students from the Lehigh Valley were chosen to participate in this weeklong training program conducted by our AmeriCorps Youth Program Coordinators, Christina Cardinal, Julissa Muschlitz and Rebecca Glassman.

Through a series of challenging group activities, classroom instruction and hands-on experience, the students learned valuable leadership skills and were able to begin putting them into action. On Wednesday they visited Historic Bethlehem Partnership Burnside Plantation where they helped set up for their Blueberry Festival.

To graduate from PYLi, the students will have to create and implement their own community service project using what they had learned throughout the training.

To apply for the 2012 PYLi Program, please fill out the PYLi application and return it to the Volunteer Center NO LATER than June 8th, 2012.  Candidates will be contacted to let them know whether or not they have been selected on June 12th, 2012.

Thank you to our 2011 In-kind Lunch Sponsors: Salad Works, On The Border, Taste of Italy, UGI Community Involvement Committee, Applebee's and Connie's Cakes and Cookies

The Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is pleased to offer the Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute to high school aged youth in the Lehigh Valley. The Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute (PYLi) is a unique training program designed to help prepare young people for leadership roles in their communities. Through a state-of-the-art curriculum that includes both classroom instruction and experiential training, the Institute teaches high school aged youth a broad array of leadership skills applicable to community service.

Mission
The mission of PYLi is to help create stronger communities and a stronger nation by giving as many young people as possible the ability and desire to make meaningful, lifelong contributions to their communities.

History
PYLi was originally created in 1996 by the Prudential Insurance Company of America as part of The Prudential Spirit of Community Initiative, a series of programs designed to promote youth volunteering. The Points of Light Foundation has administered PYLi since 1998, and in 2004 ownership of the program was transferred to the Foundation. Currently there are PYLi trainers in 48 states/territories and 10 countries. Together, they have reached more than 15,000 young people.

Impact
An evaluation of 1,000 students who participated in the Institute showed a significant increase in the students' self-awareness, self-confidence, ability to impact the community, goal-setting skills, communication skills, and team-building skills.
