American
Citizenship Award --
The American Citizenship Award is a
program of the National Association of
Elementary School Principals. They produce American Citizenship Award pins
which elementary, middle and high school principals can award to students who
participate in community service and volunteerism.
This award
honors K-12 students who make positive contributions to their schools and
communities. Principals purchase the award pins for presentation at schools.
AngelSoft Angles in Action
-- The Angels in Action
awards recognizes ten children aged 8-15 who perform acts of kindness and
volunteerism in their communities. The grand prize winner receives $20,000 and
the ten first prize winners receive $2,500. Each winner also receives a one-year
supply of Angel Soft bath tissue. The deadline is in mid-June.
Ten
awards of up to $10,000 are given to past participants in a Big Brother/Big
Sister Program. March 31 deadline.
This award supports individuals who
would otherwise not be able to attend college because of financial need.
Recipients must perform community service while enrolled.
The Bonner Foundation provides
four-year community service scholarships of up to $4,000 a year to 1,500
students each year at 25
colleges and universities. The Bonner Scholars, in turn, commit 10 hours per
week to volunteer service and participate in a summer community service
internship.
Campus Compact --
Campus Compact sponsors
several awards for volunteerism by students. The
Howard R.
Swearer Student Humanitarian Award is presented to five or six students from
campus chapters. Recipients receive $1,500 to support a service program of their

information about other grants and fellowships for students at the
state level.
Coca-Cola Two Year Colleges Program
--
For
this scholarship, two-year colleges nominate two scholarships The students must
have at least an 80% average, and 100 hours of community service. The
award amounts range from $400-$1,000.
Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program --
The Comcast Leaders and
Achievers Scholarship Program, formerly the Comcast Foundation Leaders of
Tomorrow Scholarship Program, awards more than one thousand $1,000 scholarships
for community service and leadership to high school seniors in communities
served by Comcast. Candidates must be nominated by their high school principals
by mid-March. Each principal may nominate only one student.
The Congressional Award --
The Congressional Award
honors young Americans aged 14 to 23 for excellence in volunteer public service.
It is sponsored by the United States Congress.
Daily Points of
Light Award --
The Daily Points of Light
Award recognizes significant contributions to volunteer service by individuals
and organizations. A particular emphasis is placed on efforts that identify a
community need, take an innovative approach to addressing that need, and make a
significant impact on the problem. The Points of Light Foundation also provides
several other awards
for community service.

The Do Something Brick Awards
provide a $5,000 scholarship and a $5,000 grant to "change-makers" age 18 and
under who work with Do Something to improve their communities. A $10,000 grant

The Echoing Green Public Service
Fellowship provides a one-year $15,000 stipend to graduating college seniors
from 27 participating institutions to develop and implement a community service

promote community service programs and volunteering on college campuses. The

Hitachi Foundation Opens Youth Community Service
Awards Nomination Process:
Deadline: April 1, 2006. The Hitachi Foundation (http://www.hitachifoundation.org/)
presents the Yoshiyama Award for Exemplary Service to the Community each year to
ten high school seniors from around the United States on the basis of their
community-service activities. The award is accompanied by a gift of $5,000,
dispensed over two years. Recipients may use the award at their discretion. (The
award is not a scholarship.) Yoshiyama Award selection is based upon service and
the opportunity for longer-term social change rather than on academic
achievement or extracurricular activities. Grade-point averages, SAT scores, and
school club memberships are not considered in the selection process.

International Youth Hall of Fame -- The International Youth Hall
of Fame recognizes children in grades K-12 who have made a difference at home,
in school and in the community.
Jefferson Award -- The Jefferson Award is
sponsored by the American Institute for Public Service in conjunction with more

Environmental Sciences and Marine Studies
Kohl's Kids Who Care Program -- The Kohl's Kids Who Care
Program honors students age 6-18 who are involved in community service.
Candidates enter by being nominated by an adult age 21 years or older. Regional
winners receive a $1,000 scholarship, and national winners receive a $5,000
scholarship. The deadline is March 15.
Nestle & Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Very Best in Youth --
The Very Best in Youth
program is co-sponsored by Nestle and Reading Is Fundamental. It honors 30 youth
each year who have made significant contributions to their communities. $1,000
is donated by Nestle to a charity selected by each winner. The deadline is
November 1.

features children who volunteer in their communities.
President's Volunteer
Service Award -- The President's Volunteer
Service Award, which now incorporates the
President's Student Service
Scholarships, honors Americans who have demonstrated a significant
commitment to volunteer service.
Presidential Freedom
Scholarship
-- Two students from every high school in
the country are eligible to receive one of 8,000 $1,000 Presidential Freedom
Scholarships that will be awarded in recognition of students' outstanding
service to their community. Administered
by the Learn and Serve America program of the Corporation for National and
Community Service, the annual scholarshipprogram is open to juniors and seniors
who complete at least 100 hours of community service. Amount: $500, and an
additional $500 match from a community organization or school. For

Prudential Spirit of
Community Awards --
The
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognize children in grades 5-12 who have
engaged in volunteer activities and have demonstrated exceptional community
service. The program is sponsored by Prudential in conjunction with the National
Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). State winners receive a
$1,000 award. National winners receive a $5,000 award. The student application
deadline is in late October.
The Ron Brown Scholar Program
Samuel
Huntington Public Service Award -- The Samuel Huntington Public
Service Award provides a $10,000 stipend to a graduating college senior to
pursue a year of public service anywhere in the world. The money may be used for
any project that helps others. Candidates submit a proposal as part of their
application. US citizenship is not required. The deadline is in early February.

Summer Search Foundation
Target All-Around Scholarship -- The Target All-Around
Scholarship provides a more than six hundred $1,000 scholarships and one $25,000
scholarship to students who volunteer in their communities. High school seniors
and college students age 24 and younger are eligible. The deadline is November
1.
Toyota Community Scholars: Although academic
excellence is part of the selection process, applicants should be effective
leaders and be actively involved
in a service organization or project that has a positive impact on the school
and/or the community.
Amount: 100 scholarships valued at $10,000 or $20,000 over four years.

U.S. Senate Youth Program
-- The Volunteer Spirit Award presented
by Buick, is a student volunteer recognition program currently present on forty
campuses. Students who distinguish themselves as volunteers on campus and/or in
the community receive recognition and awards for their efforts. The award winner
is presented with an award plaque and five shares of General Motors common stock

Yoshiyama Award for
Exemplary Service to the Community -- The Yoshiyama Award is
sponsored by the Hitachi Foundation to recognize extraordinary community service

grant. The grant is dispensed over two years and may be used at the discretion
of the recipients. It is not a scholarship. Community leaders, service
providers, teachers, principals and clergy may nominate candidates.
Self-nominations and nominations from family members are automatically
disqualified. The deadline for nominations is April 1.
Youth Action Net --
YouthActionNet awards
ten $500 grants to youth leaders aged 18-29 for projects that promote social
change in their communities. The deadline is October 1.
Youth Service America -- Youth Service America
administers several awards for community service by students, including the
Harris Wofford Awards ($1,000), the State Farm Companies Foundation
"Good Neighbor
Service-Learning Grant" (one hundred $1,000 grants), and the Clay Aiken
"Able to Service Awards" (twenty-five $1,000 grants), among others.
